God is love. Crazy, relentless, all-powerful love. Have you ever wondered if we’re missing it? It’s crazy, if you think about it. The God of the universe—the Creator of nitrogen and pine needles, galaxies and E-minor—loves us with a radical, unconditional, self-sacrificing love. And what is our typical response? We go to church, sing songs, and try not to cuss. Whether you’ve verbalized it yet or not...we all know somethings wrong. Does something deep inside your heart long to break free from the status quo? Are you hungry for an authentic faith that addresses the problems of our world with tangible, even radical, solutions? God is calling you to a passionate love relationship with Himself. Because the answer to religious complacency isn’t working harder at a list of do’s and don’ts—it’s falling in love with God. And once you encounter His love, as Francis describes it, you will never be the same. Because when you’re wildly in love with someone, it changes everything.

My true essence, the basic personality is evil. How do I make my good heart and compassion?
I want to be loving everyone and love God, but lately I have smoked marijuana and that made me realize the essence of my personality deep being is evil and bad things I do are manifestations of my true nature of evil. I wanted to fight with people, every time someone knocks my door, I take my knife for protection, and I do not think that people who call themselves "Christians" are truly Christian. How do I change my personality and become a good person? I want to be close to God.
Go to the soup kitchen and volunteer to feed some homeless people.

See No Evil: The True Story of a Ground Soldier in the CIA's War on Terrorism
List Price: $16.00
Sale Price: $5.20
|
|
|
In his explosive New York Times bestseller, top CIA operative Robert Baer paints a chilling picture of how terrorism works on the inside and provides startling evidence of how Washington politics sabotaged the CIA’s efforts to root out the world’s deadliest terrorists, allowing for the rise of Osama bin Laden and Al Qaeda and the continued entrenchment of Saddam Hussein in Iraq.A veteran case officer in the CIA’s Directorate of Operations in the Middle East, Baer witnessed the rise of terrorism first hand and the CIA’s inadequate response to it, leading to the attacks of September 11, 2001. This riveting book is both an indictment of an agency that lost its way and an unprecedented look at the roots of modern terrorism, and includes a new afterword in which Baer speaks out about the American war on terrorism and its profound implications throughout the Middle East.“Robert Baer was considered perhaps the best on-the-ground field officer in the Middle East.”–Seymour M. Hersh, The New YorkerFrom The PrefaceThis book is a memoir of one foot soldier’s career in the other cold war, the one against terrorist networks. It’s a story about places most Americans will never travel to, about people many Americans would prefer to think we don’t need to do business with. This memoir, I hope, will show the reader how spying is supposed to work, where the CIA lost its way, and how we can bring it back again. But I hope this book will accomplish one more purpose as well: I hope it will show why I am angry about what happened to the CIA. And I want to show why every American and everyone who cares about the preservation of this country should be angry and alarmed, too.The CIA was systematically destroyed by political correctness, by petty Beltway wars, by careerism, and much more. At a time when terrorist threats were compounding globally, the agency that should have been monitoring them was being scrubbed clean instead. Americans were making too much money to bother. Life was good. The White House and the National Security Council became cathedrals of commerce where the interests of big business outweighed the interests of protecting American citizens at home and abroad. Defanged and dispirited, the CIA went along for the ride. And then on September 11, 2001, the reckoning for such vast carelessness was presented for all the world to see.

It was some time ago that audiences were first treated to the spectacular claims of Ed and Lorraine Warren. Ed and Lorraine paint a somber, supernatural landscape for the reader who is able to stomach a voyage into a world of supernatural evil. Ed Warren (September 7, 1926 - August 23, 2006) was a noted demonologist, exorcist, author, lecturer and artist. Lorraine Warren is a clairvoyant medium. Together they are perhaps the earliest of the original ghost hunters, fifty-five years experience. Ed Warren's interest in the ghosts was jump started early. This was not too surprising because Ed was brought up in a haunted house. Lorraine also had her share of supernatural events as a child. Ed and Lorraine used their income as artists to fund their trips to haunted houses. During their visits, they kept careful records and when possible, recording of events and the way they helped those who had been unfortunate to meet up with ghosts, curses, black magic and unpleasant activities.

Zoo Story: Life in the Garden of Captives

Sale Price: $12.37

|
Welcome to the savage and surprising world of Zoo Story, an unprecedented account of the secret life of a zoo and its inhabitants, both animal and human. Based on six years of research, the book follows a handful of unforgettable characters at Tampa's Lowry Park Zoo: an alpha chimp with a weakness for blondes, a ferocious tiger who revels in Obsession perfume, and a brilliant but tyrannical CEO known as El Diablo Blanco. Zoo Story crackles with issues of global urgency: the shadow of extinction, humanity's role in the destruction or survival of other species. More than anything else, though, it's a dramatic and moving true story of seduction and betrayal, exile and loss, and the limits of freedom on an overcrowded planet--all framed inside one zoo reinventing itself for the twenty-first century. Thomas French, a Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter, chronicles the action with vivid power: Wild elephants soaring above the Atlantic on their way to captivity. Predators circling each other in a lethal mating dance. Primates plotting the overthrow of their king. The sweeping narrative takes the reader from the African savannah to the forests of Panama and deep into the inner workings of a place some describe as a sanctuary and others condemn as a prison. All of it comes to life in the book's four-legged characters. Even animal lovers will be startled by the emotional charge of these creatures' histories, which read as though they were co-written by Dickens and Darwin. Zoo Story shows us how these remarkable individuals live, how some die, and what their experiences reveal about the human desire to both exalt and control nature.

"Scripture illuminates the path of marital intimacy. The Song of Solomon shines brightly, showing us the way to the best sex we can possibly experience." "As practical as it is profound, Sex, Romance, and the Glory of God may well be the best book on marriage I've ever read. I was motivated to love my wife more and broadened in my understanding of how loving my wife brings glory to God . . . this book is truly a treasure." Gary Thomas, author of Sacred Marriage and Sacred Parenting "Men, if you are looking for a book that will give you a few easy tips for spicing up your sex life, look somewhere else. This book invites you instead to completely revolutionize your romantic relationship with your wife. It calls all of us to a more profound and deeply satisfying kind of countercultural sex than most of us have ever experienced." Bob Lepine, co-host of FamilyLife Today, author of The Christian Husband "There's not a husband I know that won't benefit from this book. This is more than a book for the bedroom. It will train you to romance your wife and set you on a lifelong pursuit of winning her heart. Wives, do yourselves a favor and buy this book for your husbands!" Why young missionaries are called elders in the Mormon church and why did they send men handsome?
is that something like Casuality one?
Over there is one scripture in the New Testament says that Jesus made a few old men. I do not think magic age, where seniors is an office of priesthood in the order of Melchizedek. One might logically be wary of us if we only sent men in search of good young people to be missionaries. However, all young men are encouraged to be worthy of serving as missionaries, and women are also allowed to ask for assignments. Besides, I guess we men generally look much better at 19 than we do to 49, for example.

Once upon a time Martians and Venusians met, fell in love, and had happy relationships together because they respected and accepted their differences. Then they came to Earth and amnesia set in: they forgot they were from different planets.Based on years of successful counseling of couples and individuals, Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus has helped millions of couples transform their relationships. Relationship counselor John Gray focuses on the differences between men and women--men are from Mars, and women are from Venus, after all--and offers a simple solution: couples must acknowledge and accept these differences before they can develop happier relationships. In this unabridged version, Gray gives a spirited delivery of his message, especially when role-playing typical male/female interactions. Although it takes some time to adjust to his slightly nasal tone, the information is sound and gives both men and women helpful hints on improving themselves and their union. Men Are Better Than Women
List Price: $14.95

Through a process of exhaustive man research he calls "keeping his eyes open," Dick Masterson has compiled a Magnum-size list of the ways men are better than women. It is an infallible compendium of man's greatness, filled with the most egregiously fallacious arguments ever put to words, but with some kind of miraculous, rock-solid man logic dripping like motor oil from every sentence. It is a manifesto more memorable than bullshit like High Fidelity or which Axe baby powder Maxim thinks you should slap on your nuts before clubbing, more chock-full of devastating man quotes than Oscar Wilde with two wangs. Most important, it is the only one of its kind. In Men Are Better Than Women, Dick Masterson dispenses logic from his man mouth into the eyes of his male readers like some kind of mighty mother man eagle with nutrient-rich word vomit. It's a book that makes you feel like driving a train into a dynamite factory and then tearing a telephone book apart with your bare hands, just because that's the way men have always done it. Masterson's chapters are simple and self-contained, demand no commitments from readers, and have an immediate payoff. Men Are Better Than Women is a dangerous work of satire -- not dangerous in a revolutionary sense, but dangerous in that it walks the razor-thin line between cruelty and absurdity. That line is called hilarious.

Men Are Like Fish: What Every Woman Needs to Know About Catching a Man
List Price: $14.95

5 Star Highest Rating: An exceptional book Most single women have experienced the sinking feeling of fishing for a date from someone special without receiving so much as a nibble. It is enough to make women wonder if there is something wrong with their bait. Steve Nakamoto, a former Dale Carnegie instructor, personal development trainer, and professional tour director understands these feelings. He has written an intelligent, funny, and wise book for women who are looking to catch a guy---hook, line, and sinker. In this entertaining look at relationships, he compares men to fish who are secretly longing to be caught. Women, on the other hand, are wily yet compassionate anglers looking to reel in the big one. Men Are Like Fish will take readers on a fact-packed fishing trip where they will learn tips on how to initiate great relationships or enhance the ones they already have. The book is sweetly old-fashioned, yet wickedly on target. Nakamoto has also sprinkled zippy cartoons/illustrations and unusually helpful quotes throughout the book. While the title might imply a single-minded effort to drag an unsuspecting man into the net, the book is actually somewhat Zenlike. It will help women to improve their self-images, broaden their interests, and accentuate the unique qualities they possess that will naturally draw good relationships to them. Nakamoto also spends a good deal of time discussing the end of relationships. He shows women how to let go gracefully, with as little pain as possible, so that they can continue to grow without harboring bitterness. He uses several examples from his own life, sharing many of his triumphs and failures with a good-natured sense of humor. Nakamoto shares one especially funny story about a tight jeans contest where he lost a shapely girlfriend/contestant to judge Clint Eastwood. He writes, I consoled myself with the thought that Deanna must have had a tough choice: Clint Eastwood (People Weekly s 2001 #2 most popular screen actor of all time) or Steve Nakamoto? It could have gone either way, right? Nakamoto also shares good, solid advice. One especially helpful area is Favorite Fishing Holes: 101 Hot Spots Where the Big Ones Are Biting. It consists of a list of fun and inexpensive activities and places to explore that are bound to be interesting, even if they do not spark a new love affair. Among the many activities that Nakamoto recommends are going to art gallery openings, visiting wineries for wine tasting and tours, and taking city tours or day trips in one s own city or in a nearby town. Nakamoto does not guarantee eternal love for readers. However, both single women looking for that perfect catch and those seeking to recapture the romance of an exciting relationship will find great value here. Men Are Like Fish is guaranteed to give even the most jaded and discouraged romantic angler a new, more joyful perspective on the oldest sport in the world. --- Reviewed by Kathleen Youman

Readers have asked for more from Chicago talk show cohost Michelle McKinney Hammond—especially women from her huge following of Christian singles. If Men Are Like Buses will pick them up where two previous bestsellers left off, with counsel that is both enjoyable and instructional. “The mood of the book is conversational, scriptural, with a touch of humor,” Michelle says. “It’s the kind of book I wanted but couldn’t find, so I had to write it!” Singles have been waiting too long to be caught up by human love. When they halt their pursuit and let God’s love catch their hearts, they’ll be on board for the greatest discovery of all—His true purpose for them. Is Your Love Life Stuck in Traffic? Most single women have heard the old adage “Men are like buses. If you miss one, there’s always another one coming.” But satisfied single and relationship expert Michelle McKinney Hammond asks, How do you recognize the right bus? And if you didn’t learn anything when the first bus passed you by, how can you be sure you’ll catch the next one? The key isn’t simply flagging down the right bus—it’s being the right kind of passenger. Mingling lively humor with scriptural principles, Hammond uses God’s blueprint to show how you, too, can move beyond being just interested to being interesting. By developing a victorious, purposeful, and outrageously fulfilling life, you’ll naturally be on your way to your desired destination! *** “Hop on the bus for a joyride. If only this book had been available when we were single, we would have saved ourselves a lot of fretting.” Susan Wales, author of A Match Made in Heaven, books I and II “Michelle teaches singles how to find fulfillment and love during their season of singleness.” Dr. Don Raunikar, psychologist, speaker, and author of Choosing God’s Best Story Behind the BookSingles often put the cart before the horse and lose perspective on what is truly important in life. From one single to another, I’ve made it my mission to realign the thoughts of singles back to the basics of living victoriously by prioritizing their lives according to God’s design. As singles become purposeful individuals, they will find themselves in the right position for meeting the right partner. Purposeful singles are happy, fulfilled people who are whole and ready for the awesome task of becoming one with another. Furthermore, they are more discerning and able to make the right choice—or actually, take right bus!

On Star Trek TNG, which is supposed to be in the frame behind the bartender in Ten-Forward?
If you're sitting at the bar facing the bartender, he would be directly behind the wall. It resembles a kind of rock. Does it have a name? Is there something special about this?
It seems that has a mural that represented the Milky Way galaxy. It was designed by Rick Sternbach. I posted the link where I found it.

Should the church receive homosexuals into its community and support committed gay and lesbian relationships? Should congregations publicly and liturgically witness and affirm divorces? Should the church's moral standards continue to be set by patriarchal males? Should women be consecrated bishops? Bishop Spong proposes a pastoral response based on scripture and history to the changing realities of the modern world. Bad Girls of the Bible and What We Can Learn from Them

|
Learn some lessons in good living from the Bible's bad news belles. Women everywhere marvel at the "good girls" in Scripture such as Sarah, Mary, and Ruth. But on most days, when they look in the mirror they see the selfishness of Sapphira or the deception of Delilah. They catch a glimpse of Jezebel's take-charge pride or Salome's misguided attempt to please her mother. What's a good girl to do? In Bad Girls of the Bible, author Liz Curtis Higgs offers a unique and clear-sighted approach to understanding those "other women" in Scripture, combining a contemporary retelling of their stories with a solid, verse-by-verse study of the lessons we can learn from them. Whether they were "bad to the bone," "bad for a season," or just "bad for a moment," these infamous sisters show readers how not to handle life's challenges. With her trademark humor and encouragement, Liz Curtis Higgs helps us avoid their tragic mistakes and joyfully embrace grace. Here's encouragement, hope for the future, laughter, and stress release, all between the cover of one book.
Jezebel and Delilah have plenty to teach contemporary Christian women, according to Bad Girls of the Bible and What We Can Learn from Them. In this self-help book, Liz Curtis Higgs tells fictionalized, contemporary stories based on the lives of biblical characters including Eve, Potiphar's Wife, and the Woman at the Well. In verse-by-verse commentary, Higgs summarizes each life's lessons and provides a list of questions for personal consideration or group discussion. The overall message of each chapter is the same: "Good Girls and Bad Girls both need a Savior. The goodness of your present life can't open the doors of heaven for you. The badness of your past life can't keep you out either." In its effort to turn readers' minds heavenward, Bad Girls draws a distinction between fun and joy. Associated with "fleshly pleasures," fun "is temporary at best; it's risky, even dangerous, at worst." Joy, on the other hand, is found in God's "gift of grace." Perhaps the book's greatest weakness is its inability to see that "fun," in many lives, is a holy and necessary means of attaining "joy." --Michael Joseph Gross

What separates a super-hero from an ordinary hero?
Probably a stupid question posts, but what separates a super-hero from an ordinary hero? Okay, but decided that super-heroes have to be superpowered? All super heroes have superpowers. According to Jeff Rovin, their powers should not be physical, may be attributable to their weapons, costumes or means of transport. Superheroes defend and protect entire cities and countries to protect and save humanity and the world, and plants and galaxies. They do more than save and protect normal lives as heroes. Am I forgetting anything?
Ill use Superman was an example .. Some people say that Superman is too powerful, thats what makes him a bad hero, but I say that is what society needs a hero, someone who is not so easily reduced, when humanity Crys for help, they dont cry for another guy in a suit that will be reduced to limits that make us human face of destruction, they cry with a power unimaginable, which may shift from oppression and defeat the evil worlds. ... that is why the world needs superheroes, thats why Superman is the best.

New York Times bestselling author Jeff Rovin has held readers in breathless suspense with his Tom Clancy’s Op-Center novels. He has created compelling characters with vividly rendered emotions and actions. His page-turning thrillers have addressed questions of good and evil in our times. Now, Rovin confronts the question of Good and Evil on the ultimate battleground. A human soul hangs in the balance, and thousands of years of religious teachings depict only the beginning of the fight for dominion over man. Psychologist Sarah Lynch is stunned when one of her young patients hangs himself. Evidence reveals that Fredric had become a Satanist. Intending to solve the puzzle of Fredric’s death, Sarah attempts to conjure the devilsurely then she will understand what the teenager was thinking. Sarah knows that belief in God and the Devil is a construct of the human mind and that people contain within them both good and evil. Her own family is the perfect example. Sarah’s mother is still in denial about her dead husband’s alcoholism, but acts as a wonderful grandparent to the son of the family’s live-in housekeeper. Her alcoholic brother bounces from girlfriend to girlfriend and job to job, but is always there when Sarah needs him. And Sarah herself? She lost her faith more than a decade ago, during a personal crisis. But she is dedicated to giving others the help she did not receive. Even the nun who is Sarah’s best friend cannot break through Sarah’s shield of cynicism. But Satan can. The Devil himself rises in Sarah’s office, sometimes a being of dark smoke and sometimes a creature of all-too-perfect, seductive flesh. Most disturbing is Satan’s claim that only by following him can people find real happiness. In the Devil’s theology, God is a brutal, jealous bully. And as God and Satan battle for Sarah’s soul, Sarah comes to believe him. She forgets that he is the Master of Lies . . . .
