Neurological Disorders in Famous Artists (Frontiers of Neurology and Neuroscience)
List Price: $123.00
Sale Price: $117.59
|
|
|
The third part of "Neurological Disorders in Famous Artists" presents painters, musicians, and writers who had to fight against an acute or chronic neurological disease. Sometimes this fight was without success (e.g. Shostakovich, Schumann, Wolf, Pascal), but often a dynamic and paradoxical creativity of the clinical disorder was integrated into their artistic production (e.g. Klee, Ramuz). Occasionally, some even wrote the first report of a medical condition they observed in themselves, like Stendhal who made a detailed report of aphasic transient ischemic attacks before dying of stroke shortly thereafter. In rarer instances, a neurological disease was inaccurately attributed to an artist in order to explain certain features of his work (de Chirico, Schiele). Some chapters in this publication focus on neurological conditions reported in artistic work, including descriptions by Shakespeare and Dumas. Bringing new light to both artists and neurological conditions, this book serves as a valuable and entertaining read for neurologists, psychiatrists, physicians, and anybody interested in arts, literature and music.

FIRST TIME ON AUDIO...An Unabridged Novella Unavailable In Any Collection! Tapping into our primal fears of modern technology that made Cell a #1 bestseller, Stephen King sets his sights on the latest high-tech gadget in UR, in which a mysterious e-book reader opens a disturbing window into other worlds. Reeling from a painful break-up, English instructor and avid book lover Wesley Smith is haunted by his ex-girlfriend's parting shot: "Why can't you just read off the computer like everyone else?" He buys an e-book reader out of spite, but soon finds he can use the device to glimpse realities he had never before imagined, discovering literary riches beyond his wildest dreams...and all-too-human tragedies that surpass his most terrible nightmares. From vintage cars (Christine and From a Buick 8) to household appliances (Maximum Overdrive) to exercise equipment (Stationary Bike), Stephen King has mesmerized us with tales of apparently ordinary machines that take on lives of their own. UR gives this classic theme an up-to-the-minute spin, resulting in a horror masterpiece for our time and for the ages.
Since his first novel was published in 1974, Stephen King has stretched the boundaries of the storyteller as a writer who constantly redefines his readers' experience by working in various genres and formats . Whether in an epic horror novel, like THE STAND, a serial-novel like THE GREEN MILE, or a novella like SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, King is able to deliver a reading experience like no one else can. As quickly as a spider spins its web, King reminds us why he's the master of the novella - a format which, up until now that is, one might have thought is fast disappearing.

The text read in this audio book is the original 1937 edition written by Napoleon Hill, and while it has often been reproduced, no updated version has ever been able to compete with the original. It has been used as a roadmap to achievement by countless individuals. The 13 Steps to Riches offers the shortest dependable philosophy of individual achievement ever presented for the benefit of anyone who is searching for a definite goal in life. Hill interviewed 504 people, including Ford, Wrigley, Wanamaker, Eastman, Rockefeller, Edison, Woolworth, Darrow, Burbank, Morgan, Firestone, and three United States Presidents. The process of conducting these interviews required an investment of 20 years of Napoleon Hill's life. This book has sold millions of printed copies for nearly three quarters of a century. One can gather from the title, that the starting place for wealth is in a person's thoughts and this title is the source for most of today's motivational speakers.. So why not go back to the original source?

THE ALASKAN CHAPTER I CAPT AIN RIFLE, gray and old in the Alaskan Steamship service, had not lost the spirit of his youth along with his years. Romance was not dead in him, and the fire which is built up of clean adventure and the association of strong men and a mighty country had not died out of his veins. He could still see the picturesque, feel the thrill of the unusual, and-at times-warm memories crowded upon him so closely that yesterday seemed today, and Alaska was young again, thrilling the world with her wild call to those who had courage to come and fight for her treasures, and live-or die. Tonight, with the softly musical throb of his ship under his feet, and the yellow moon climbing up from behind the ramparts of the Alaskan mountains, something of loneliness seized upon him, and he said simply: "That is Alaska." The girl standing beside him at the rail did not turn, nor for a moment did she answer. How Not to F*** Them Up
Sale Price: $20.73
|
|
|
Are you confused by parenting advice from experts who contradict each other? Concerned about the possible effects of being a working mother? Terrified of turning into your own parents? Parents today are overwhelmed with elaborate advice on how to raise babies. In "How Not to F*** Them Up", leading child psychologist Oliver James argues that it's not our children that must be trained...it's us. Meticulously researched, inspiring and yet provocative, "How Not to F*** Them Up" raises important questions about the way in which we bring up our children: Do we, as a society, provide enough support for parents?; How has the role of the father changed in recent years?; and Can a working mum ever reconcile her career with her family life? Drawing on extensive interviews, James identifies three basic types of mum: the Hugger, the Organiser, and the Fleximum. Outlining the benefits and pitfalls of each, James offers simple strategies to reconcile parents' personal ambition and desire for a career with the needs of the family and maintaining a work/life balance. By challenging our ingrained and often flawed beliefs, James shows us how our own childhood experiences can impact on our perception of 'the family', and how ultimately we can provide the happy and stable environment that all babies and toddlers need, regardless of our own upbringing.

I have just discovered the ruins of a lighthouse in rural Pennsylvania?
What an amazing discovery. Just near the coast, while diving in West Penn, I came across what seems to be ruins of a lighthouse from the 14th century! Is anyone familiar with this? How can I make it known to oceanographers, archaeologists and neurologists around the world? ILL BE RICH!
Get out there and photograph it. Very very secretly, see if you can buy the property. Fence off if you can. I hope you will become rich. Wait. Neurologists? What??

Who but the peace of the world religion has a formula for making peace between Christianity and Judaism, Islam?
The World Peace Religion makes peace between Christianity and unites Judaism and Islam throughout the world. Currently, these religions lead us against each other in Nuclear World War 3, the extinction of life on earth forever. The World Peace Religion http://www.thetempleoflove.com
The Bahai Faith for one. Americans really became extremists if Yahoo Answers is representative. 9-11 sucked, but we can not use it for prepetuate more violence. American Nationalism seems to have mixed with Christianity. I wonder how it was done. Some evil spirits. Dont know much about the religion of peace in the world though. We must transcend our religious differences, however. It is only fear that imprisons us in these ideologies. God has no religion and religion does not God
